City of Salzburg
Mozart's birthplace offers music, art, culture and much more!
The historic old town is the heart, the historic lanes and squares want to be discovered. Flanked by the city mountains, which put the old town in an incomparable setting, and under the watchful eyes of the fortress Hohensalzburg urban life hardly stands still.
Mozart's birthplace is about 10 minutes walk away. The museum, open all year round, where you can admire paintings, six preserved original instruments, music sketches and the world's largest photographic archive, takes not only Mozart fans back to the 18th century. If you still want to see more of/about Mozart, you can also visit his former residence, which is just 5 minutes away. The music manuscripts, original letters and the collection of thousands of films and audio tracks make the second Mozart Museum unique.
When the weather is nice you can enjoy the sun in the Mirabell garden, named after the Mirabell castle, which is located in the garden itself. Take a few photos of the more than 300-year-old dwarfs in the dwarf garden, feel the historic atmosphere at the Pegasus Fountain, stroll through the Heckentheater and let the fragrant scent of flowers in the rose garden amaze you.
During your old town tour you can also enjoy the restaurants, coffeehouse culture and bars, taverns and brewpubs, fashion stores and boutiques. From the Getreidegasse to the Festspielhaus, from Nonntal to the Neutor, from the Staatsbrücke to the Augustinerbräu in Mülln – here there is something suitable for everyone.
